Experience Life in England |
|
The UK is known for the game of cricket, the Beatles, Princess Di and Mr. Bean. It is also the home of Big Ben, Queen Elisabeth II and the “Five o’clock Tea.” International music and literature wouldn’t be the same without the Rolling Stones, Queen, Sir Elton John, Robbie Williams, and William Shakespeare. The variety of landscapes and tourist sights is breathtaking. Ancient forests, moors, mountain ranges and rocky coastlines are incredible. Explore England’s history through its medieval castles and palaces and old “Gentleman” manors scattered throughout the English countryside. Visit London, a magnificent modern metropolis of eight million inhabitants with an extraordinary choice of arts, theater, music, and museums, in all shapes and sizes from grungy, chic, punk to classical.
UK High School Program
The UK has quality schools with excellent teachers, recognized for high international academic standards. English schools are “all day’ schools, with a long tradition and history. In addition to subjects like math, history, English and foreign languages, a student can also select from a wide variety of other courses, such as theater arts, art, computer science and many extracurricular sports.
The English School System is has three different types of schools: State School: State schools are supported by the government and provide excellent facilities, sport fields and gyms, computer facilities, libraries and theatres. These schools sometimes provide “boarding facilities” which are student dormitories and cost an additional fee. Independent Schools (private day schools): These well-known “elite” day schools are outstanding academic institutions. Faculty and staff have exceptional qualifications and the graduates of such schools are often leaders of industry and commerce. Boarding Schools (private): This is the most traditional and well-known school form in England. Students have the choice of either Boys or Girls or Coeducational schools. The emphasis is placed not only on outstanding academics, but also on the encouragement and development of the individual.
Host Families
For students attending day schools, we find the best possible host family for each student. It is normal for families in England to receive a “host family stipend.” This stipend varies from family to family from between £50 and £250 per month |
