Small & Personal

We take a very personal approach in selecting and placing each student in our program.  We are looking for nice, friendly students, who are adaptable, motivated, involved in school activities, and who want to become an active member of a family.  Personal characteristics, in particular a positive mental attitude, are significant in the selection of qualified candidates for the iE-USA Study Abroad Program.

Student Orientation

Our goal is that each and every one of our iE-USA students has a rewarding and successful experience abroad. In addition to the reading materials, all iE-USA students attend an orientation seminar, organized by experienced iE-USA staff, to help prepare them for a successful experience abroad.

Local Coordinators

Local coordinators in each of the communities where we place our students find the best possible families, help whenever problems occur and enjoy being a part of a successful year for both the host families and the students.  Coordinators that are working unseen in the background are the most ideal situation.  Their services are hopefully seldom needed, but if a problem does arise, then they are quickly available to help both the student and the host family whenever needed.  The local coordinators contact our students on a monthly basis.  Many of our coordinators see our students every week.

Insurance

Health insurance for your entire stay is mandatory.  The health and accident insurance from iE-USA has been designed especially for exchange students,  meeting government standards and offering a particularly high coverage which may be better than your local insurance.

Spending Money

If you attend a school that does not loan books to students, you might have to spend between $100 and $150 for school books.  In addition, you will incur expenses for regular school supplies, telephone, stamps. toiletries, movie tickets, concerts, gifts, clothing, etc.  We recommend, depending on the country, between $150 and $250 spending money each month.

Driving

Driving laws vary around the world, and even if you are already licensed to drive in America, you may not drive in a foreign country.  The iE-USA health and travel insurance does NOT cover our students if they are operating any kind of a motorized vehicle during their stay abroad
